Godard: Honors College Associate Director

MACOMB, IL – Mike Godard, associate professor of kinesiology at Western Illinois University, has been named the associate director of Western's Centennial Honors College, effective Jan. 17, according to Honors College Interim Director Rick Hardy.

Godard joined Western's kinesiology faculty in August 2006. Previously, he was at the University of Kansas (2002-2006), the University of Kansas Medical Center (2002-2005) and the University of Southern Maine (2000-2002). Godard has also served in various positions at Beth Israel Medical Center (New York) and The New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center.

During his tenure at Western, Godard has also served as a research faculty associate in the Center of Innovation in Teaching and Research. Godard has been a member of the Honors Council at Western since 2009 and has been involved with several honors thesis projects and numerous in-class honors projects. Godard has participated in the Thomas E. Helm Undergraduate Research Day for several years and his students have presented their research at regional and national conferences.

"The Honors College is privileged to have Dr. Godard as our new associate director," Hardy said. "Mike is a gifted teacher. He also possesses a significant publication record, a proven reputation for securing grants and experience working with honors students. His boundless energy and enthusiasm are contagious."

He has served on numerous curriculum committees at the departmental, college and university levels for both undergraduate and graduate programs, and he has led curriculum revisions for both undergraduate and graduate programs and has been involved with the re-accreditation process for several programs. Godard is a member of the self-study team for the North Central Accreditation Criterion 4 and of the Provost's Advisory Committee. Godard is the current president of the Midwest American College of Sports Medicine and was selected as an inaugural mentor for the Leadership and Diversity Training Program for the American College of Sports Medicine.

Godard received his doctorate degree from Ball State University, his master's degree from Adelphi University and his bachelor's degree from Castleton State College (Vermont).
