Sheffield Named Chair of Educational Studies at WIU

MACOMB, IL – Eric Sheffield, graduate program director and professor of Reading, Foundations and Technology at Missouri State University (MSU), has been named the chair of Western Illinois University's Department of Educational Studies, effective July 1.

Sheffield began working at MSU in 2003 as an assistant professor, as was promoted to professor in 2013. He was named director of MSU's Reading, Foundations and Technology Program in 2015. Prior to coming to MSU, Sheffield was a high school English teacher in Florida, an adjunct instructor at St. Johns River Community College.

"Dr. Sheffield's breadth of experience has prepared him exceptionally well for the challenges of chairing a complex academic unit," said College of Education and Human Services Dean Erskine Smith. "He is a strong proponent of quality instruction that incorporates faculty and student research." 

Sheffield received his bachelor's degree in philosophy from Illinois College, his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Florida. He has authored and co-authored numerous books and peer-reviewed journal articles and has won numerous teaching awards.
