MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's Department of Kinesiology and the Fire Protection Services program recently worked together to meet a fundraising goal of $5,000 and purchased a ClimbMill machine.

The group received a matching $5,000 donation to purchase the step machine, which is now available for students to use. It is a type of stair master that will help prepare future firefighters in WIU's Fire Science Protection Services program to pass the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT).

The equipment will also be used as part of a kinesiology course to provide real-life experience to Western's Exercise Science students who plan to become Certified Strength and Conditional Specialists or Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitators who train military, fire and rescue, law enforcement, protection services and other emergency personnel to improve performance, promote wellness and decrease risk of injury.

"This is an excellent example of WIU students working together to make a difference at their school and provide a better education for current and future students," said Kinesiology Department Chair Renee Polubinsky.
