Annual Mathematics Teachers' Conference April 12 at WIU

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University's Department of Mathematics will host the 68th annual Mathematics Teachers' Conference from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Friday, April 12 in Morgan and Horrabin halls.

The event is an annual professional development conference for K-12 math teachers. This year's theme is "Common Core Mathematics: Patterns and Conjectures."

This year's keynote speakers include Darshan M. Jain, the director of mathematics and computer science at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, IL, and the winner of a presidential award; Jackie Murawska, an associate professor of mathematics at St. Xavier University in Chicago and the current president of the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics; and Paul Abrahamson, the artistic director for the Chicago Ballet Center.

Murawska and Abrahamson will make a joint presentation, "Dance, Math and Patterns."

Breakout sessions and workshops will be presented by area mathematics teachers.
