MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University hosted the annual Supply Chain Management Day Tuesday, Sept. 21 on the Macomb campus. This marked the 18th annual SCM Day event at WIU.

Every year, professionals from around the area attend to network and recruit SCM students and industry professionals. This event is held prior to most companies making hiring decisions regarding full-time positions, internships and summer employment opportunities.

This year, 24 professionals attended the fall SCM Advisory Board meeting, including representatives from ADM, John Deere, Cat Logistics, JB Hunt, Dot Foods, Rural King, Essendant, Alpine Supply Chain Solutions and Iowa 80 Group.

"The SCM program at WIU strives to continually update the curriculum and activities to meet the needs of industry," said Assistant Professor of SCM Honey Zimmerman. "The advisory board meets twice a year to discuss course content, program needs, changes in the industry and much more to ensure the relevancy of our graduates."

In addition, students participated in the SCM career fair held in the University Union Grand Ballroom. Twenty companies were in attendance, with hopes of recruiting full-time supply chain employees and interns. The event was open to all majors and academic disciplines, primarily targeting students from the SCM program and the College of Business and Technology.

"Internships are required for every SCM major, so this event is a great opportunity for students to meet prospective employers in-person," said Zimmerman. "Several companies set up interviews with students the following day."

Networking opportunities continued over dinner, and SCM scholarship winners were announced. Seven scholarships were awarded, totaling more than $13,000. The following students were recognized: Adithya Kartha (Bob Davis Endowed Scholarship), Michael Singleton (Bob Davis Endowed Scholarship), Nathanael Adams (Quad Cities ASCM Chapter Scholarship), Trinity Perez (Quad Cities ASCM Chapter Scholarship), Gabby Portz (Delta Nu Alpha Endowed Scholarship), Alex Sellers (Dot Foods Scholarship) and Anthony Severino (John Tracy Endowed Scholarship).

SCM Day 2023 is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023. For more information, or to register, visit wiu.edu/scmday.
