Bestselling Author Mandel to Serve as Fred Ewing Case and Lola Austin Case Writer-in-Residence Oct. 16

MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University English Department will host the Fred Ewing Case and Lola Austin Case Writer-in-Residence at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16 in the WIU Grand Ballroom.

Renowned author Emily St. John Mandel will be the visiting writer this year. She will hold a Craft Talk at 3 p.m. and an on-stage conversation about three of her novels at 5 p.m., followed by a book signing where attendees can purchase books at Copperfield's Book Service on the square.

St. John Mandel is a bestselling author of multiple novels, including "The Glass Hotel," "Station Eleven" and "Sea of Tranquility." "Station Eleven" was a finalist for a National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award. It also won the 2015 Arthur C. Clarke Award, the Toronto Book Award and the Morning News Tournament of Books and was adapted into a limited series for HBO. Her previous novel, "The Singer's Gun," won the Prix Mystere de la Critique in France in 2014. Her short fiction and essays have been anthologized in numerous collections, including Best American Mystery Stories 2013. Additionally, she is a staff writer for The Millions.

The series is sponsored by WIU's English Department, the Fred Ewing Case and Lola Austin Case Write-in-Residence program and WIU's College of Arts and Sciences.

The Fred Ewing Case and Lola Austin Case Writer-in-Residence supports bringing national poetry and fiction writers to WIU each year. Events are open free to the public.
