MACOMB, IL -- The Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) at Western Illinois University is pleased to announce Paul Carrigan, library technical assistant I in the Malpass Library circulation department, has been selected as the October Civil Service Employee of the Month.

Carrigan was nominated for his work behind the scenes at the Malpass Library. According to his nominators, Carrigan and his staff open the library each morning and close it each evening. During the past eight months he often has been the only staff available in the circulation unit and constantly changes his own schedule to meet the unit’s needs. Carrigan supervises students who reshelve books, shifts collections as space requires, checks shelves to ensure books are in the proper order and labels the shelf ranges for ease of use. His attitude has been called “superior” by his nominators and he has been recognized for working with everyone available to ensure that services to the students, staff and faculty of WIU remain at the high level the Libraries are known for. Carrigan has been with the library since September 1999.

“We’d like to congratulate Paul for his incredible work ethic and for doing what it takes to make sure students, faculty, staff and community members are able to find what they need when using the Malpass Library,” said Paula Stull, CSEC public relations officer.

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for this recognition should call Stull at 309/298-1967 or e-mail PL-Stull@wiu.edu.
