MACOMB, IL -- Kathy Artis, chief clerk in nontraditional programs, has been named the Western Illinois University December Civil Service Employee of the Month.

According to Artis' nominator, she became "a highly valued team player after she was hired to serve as chief clerk for the unit. She motivates others with her enthusiasm and pride in doing an excellent job."

"She is aware of our nontraditional students' challenges and is always seeking solutions to minimize those challenges," her nominator added. "She never fails to be courteous and exemplifies commitment to the individual learner by maintaining a proactive approach in helping students attain the keys to success in our program by making them aware of the vital resources at their disposal."

Artis began working as a chief clerk in nontraditional programs at Western in July 2005.

"Kathy's commitment to Western and to her job is to be commended," said Laura Caldwell. "Her courtesy and professionalism showcase the type of individuals employed at WIU."
