December 11, 2007
MACOMB, IL - - Paul Kreider, dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication and professor of music at Western Illinois University, was recently elected to the board of directors for two fine arts councils: the Illinois Arts Alliance (IAA) and the International Council of Fine Arts Deans (ICFAD).
"We're very pleased to welcome Dr. Kreider to the organization," said Ra Joy, executive director of the Illinois Arts Alliance. "He brings valuable perspective as a musician, a resident of western Illinois and a representative of the higher education community."
The Illinois Arts Alliance (www.artsalliance.org) is a statewide arts advocacy and service organization promoting the value of the arts to all Illinois residents.
The International Council of Fine Arts Deans (www.icfad.org) is an alliance of arts administrators representing institutions of higher education. The ICFAD provides leadership in arts education, offers a forum for the exchange of ideas and information and addresses issues of common concern. The alliance is also committed to fostering the highest standards in the profession, encouraging global understanding and cooperation and offering leadership for the arts in society. Annual conferences are held in major cultural centers in North America and Europe, during which time topics of interest are discussed by artists, academic and intellectual leaders, and government and foundation officials.
"I am pleased to serve the IAA and ICFAD. Service is centered upon engaging the collective spirits, intelligences and energies that we all bring to the organizations with which we are involved," Kreider said. "Progress is rooted in the pooling of collective ideas and creativity that helps an organization to realize its potential. I am happy to be involved, and I hope I can contribute."
Kreider came to Western Illinois as COFAC dean in July 2004 after serving as music department chair at The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and Northern Kentucky University. His performance credits include PBS national telecasts of "Anthony and Cleopatra" and "Madame Butterfly;" national radio broadcasts with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, St. Louis public radio and opera theatre. Kreider was principal baritone with the Salzburger Landestheatre, Salzburg, Austria and he has three recordings on the works of Daron Hagen. He has performed with world renowned singers, conductors and directors at opera houses in Vienna, Rome, Florence and Tokyo and in several regional operatic and orchestral venues in the U.S. Kreider earned his bachelor's degree in vocal performance from UNLV and a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Arizona.
