MACOMB, IL -- Donna Pestle, secretary IV in the agriculture department, has been named the Western Illinois University April Civil Service Employee of the Month.

According to Pestle's nominators, a key factor in Pestle's work performance is "her ability to see what needs to be done and then to quickly and efficiently take action to perform the work."

"Donna has consistenly and professionally arranged and finalized departmental teaching requirements, including room assignments and teaching schedules, for a number of years. Her initiative extends beyond taking action on room assignments into ensuring student organizations have rooms available after working hours," one nominator said. "She has also, by her own choice, served as an adviser to the Agriculture Council. She takes considerable pride in knowing our department's students. Her interest in the students is a strong testimony of the importance of students to the department."

Another nominator added that Pestle's "positive, can-do attitude helps set a tone of camaraderie in the agriculture office."

"Whether she's reserving a classroom or organizing a major event, she is instrumental in making things happen and making them go smoothly," her nominator said. "She truly cares about others."

Pestle began working as a secretary II for the English department in 1978. She has also served as a secretary III for superintendence, human resources, the vice president for student affairs and non-credit programs. She was promoted to secretary IV in 1987 and transferred to the agriculture department office in 1988.

"We applaud Donna for her outstanding work. Not only does she positively reflect the agriculture department, her attitude and work ethic is a positive reflection of the University as a whole," said Laura Caldwell, Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) public relations representative. "She is a great role model for the students her department serves and for other University employees."

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for this recognition should contact Caldwell at 309/298-1917 or e-mail LM-Caldwell@wiu.edu.
