Williams Named Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs

MACOMB, IL -- Ronald C. Williams, director for post-secondary education authorization at Tennessee Higher Education Commission in Nashville, TN, has been named Western Illinois University assistant vice president for academic affairs, effective July 14, according to Provost and Academic Affairs Vice President Jack Thomas.

Williams has served as director for post-secondary education authorization at Tennessee Higher Education Commission since November 2005. Prior to that, he was the assistant director for post-secondary education authorization from 2002-2005. Williams has also served as an educational program specialist for the commission and as coordinator of scholarship programs and as assistant to the director of student financial aid at Lane College in Jackson, TN.

He was a certified recruiter for the Los Angeles (CA) Unified School District and has served as an adjunct instructor and teaching assistant at Middle Tennessee State University and Tennessee State University, respectively.

Williams received his doctorate (2005) and his master's (2001) degrees in educational administration from Tennessee State University and his bachelor's degree in business administration from Lane College (1998).

"Dr. Williams' work with Tennessee Higher Education Commission includes developing new academic programs, which is in line with the newly-created assistant vice president position at Western. His expertise will allow the University to enhance its already outstanding academic programs, while creating dynamic new programs," Thomas said. "I'd like to welcome Dr. Williams to Western; we look forward to him joining our administrative team. I am pleased to support the recommendation of the search committee in identifying Dr. Williams as the outstanding candidate for this important new staff position."

The assistant vice president will assist with academic program development, and will serve as a liaison with 2 + 2 and transfer student programs in the Office of Admissions. The assistant vice president will also serve as the chief diversity officer for the division of academic affairs. This includes responsibility for the development and implementation of initiatives designed to support the diversification of faculty and staff, and serving as the university representative for the Illinois Board of Higher Education Diversifying Faculty Initiative Program. The assistant vice president will represent the division of Academic Affairs on university committees and councils.
