MACOMB, IL – Following an investigation into the report of an alleged attempted armed robbery March 3 in Western Illinois University's Thompson Hall, the Office of Public Safety (OPS) has determined the report filed was false. The student who alleged that another individual attempted to steal his wallet at knifepoint has been judicially referred for filing a false report.

"We do not tolerate such behavior. This University takes incidents seriously that could compromise the security of our campus community and our Office of Public Safety fully investigates these reports to ensure the safety of our students and employees," said WIU President Al Goldfarb. "Filing a false report serves only to create unnecessary panic, and also prevents our officers from investigating and solving other incidents."
