Michael Shonrock, who earned his M.S. in college student personnel from Western, will deliver a presentation at 2 p.m. Friday, April 23 at WIU. Shonrock will discuss his work with Gallup's StrengthsFinder, an assessment that helps individuals recognize and apply their strengths, and the new Clifton Institute. Shonrock currently serves as the senior vice president for enrollment management and student affairs, as well as associate professor in the College of Education, at Texas Tech University. COEHS 2010 Distinguished Alumnus to Deliver Speech about Using Gallup's StrengthsFinder April 23

MACOMB, IL -- To cap off COEHS Week -- a weeklong celebration of the students, faculty and staff who work in the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) at Western Illinois University -- Michael Shonrock, a Western alumnus, will deliver a presentation at 2 p.m. Friday, April 23 in Horrabin Hall 82 on the Macomb campus. WIU-QC campus participants will be able to see the presentation and participate in the panel discussion via a synchronous video conference in the WIU-QC building, room B16.

The COEHS 2010 Distinguished Alumnus, Shonrock will discuss his work with Gallup's StrengthsFinder, an assessment that helps individuals recognize and apply their strengths, and the new Clifton Institute during the presentation. Dana Moon, COEHS director of marketing and community relations, noted that Shonrock will encourage students to recognize and use their strengths to engage in life, both personally and professionally.

Shonrock's presentation is one of the culminating events during COEHShowcase: COEHS Week 2010, April 19-23. (For more information about COEHS Week, see wiu.edu/coehs/showcase.)

Shonrock currently serves as the senior vice president for enrollment management and student affairs, as well as associate professor in the College of Education, at Texas Tech University. As senior VP, he is responsible for several departments and offices at Texas Tech, including enrollment management, undergraduate admissions, the financial aid and scholarship office, student housing and more. Shonrock oversees more than 800 full-time staff members and 1,500 student staff members; he manages an annual operating budget of more than $100 million.

Since 1990, Shonrock has served at Texas Tech as an administrator and faculty member. Other positions Shonrock has held at Texas Tech include associate dean of students, dean of students, assistant vice president, as well as VP for student affairs.

Shonrock earned his B.S. from WIU in arts and sciences and an M.S. in college student personnel from Western's College of Education and Human Services. While serving as director of student life at Pittsburg State University, he received his Ed.S. in community college administration. At the University of Kansas, he earned his Ph.D. in higher education administration.

Shonrock has served, and will continue to serve, on numerous community and professional boards, such as Association of Public Land-Grant Universities, Council of Student Services Vice Presidents, Lubbock Area United Way, National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Gallup Clifton Institute, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators, University Medical Center Foundation Board, and the Lubbock Independent School District.
