MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University Fall We Care event, which has become a Homecoming Week tradition, will take place Monday, Sept. 20 through Thursday, Sept. 23.

To coincide with Western's 2010 Homecoming weekend Sept. 24-25, the Fall We Care will focus on various planting projects across campus, as well as general cleanup. Volunteers are being sought to assist in the plantings and cleanup, which will be held from 3-5:30 p.m. each day. The schedule is as follows:

Monday, Sept. 20: Thompson Prairie clean-up and Sustainability Night
Tuesday, Sept. 21: Planting mums throughout campus
Wednesday, Sept. 22: Spreading mulch throughout campus
Thursday, Sept. 23: General campus clean-up and trash pick-up

Those interested in helping any or all days need to register by Friday, Sept. 17 by contacting Tara Beal, superintendent of landscape maintenance, at 298-1834 ext. 255 or TS-Beal@wiu.edu. Include first and second choices of dates and e-mail, mailing address and phone number.

On those days, volunteers will be asked to meet at their assigned planting area at 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served. WIU grounds crew personnel will supervise and assist with the plantings.

Since the beginning of Western Illinois University's We Care event in 1994, thousands of perennials and hundreds of trees have been planted to beautify the WIU campus.
