IIRA Sustainability Brownbaggers 2011 Spring Series Line Up

MACOMB, IL - - The Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs (IIRA), housed at Western Illinois University, will once again sponsor a series of Sustainability Brownbaggers lunch-time conversation events. The presentations, held over the lunch hour from 12:30–1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, are described as "conversations for the natural and social sciences, business and the arts and humanities."

The Sustainability Brownbaggers events will be held in WIU's Leslie F. Malpass Library, third floor. Individuals are welcome to bring their lunches to each event. Upcoming presentations include:

Tuesday, Feb. 8: "Geographic Information Systems and the Environment"
Presented by: Chris Merrett, IIRA director; Chad Sperry, WIU Geographical Information Systems Center (GIS) director; and Susan Romano, assistant professor, WIU biological sciences

Tuesday, Feb. 15: "Prairie as Landscape and Ecosystem"
Presented by: Angella Moorehouse, Illinois Department of Natural Resources; Amy Patrick Mossman, associate professor, WIU English and journalism; and David Soule, WIU physics (retired)

Tuesday, Feb. 22: "Sustainable Agricultural Issues"
Presented by: Joel Gruver, assistant professor, WIU School of Agriculture; and David King, Prairie Hills Resource and Conservation District

Tuesday, March 1: "Invasive Species in Illinois: Water, Grasslands and Forests"
Presented by: Jim Lehmer, Illinois Department of Natural Resources; and Tim Spier, associate professor, WIU biological sciences

Tuesday, March 22: "Alternative Energy: What Does a Supply Chain Mean?"
Presented by: Fred Iutzi, IIRA; and Rajeev Sawhney, professor, WIU management and marketing

Tuesday, March 29: "Students of Environmental Studies 401"
Presented by: Student panel, class presentation and Environmental Summit presentation

The Sustainability Brownbaggers series is presented in cooperation with the University Libraries' Leslie F. Malpass Library, the WIU Institute for Environmental Studies, the WIU Centennial Honors College and the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Research (CITR).
