22nd Annual Education Law Conference Set for March 11 at WIU-Macomb

MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University Department of Educational Leadership will host the 22nd Annual WIU Education Law Conference Friday, March 11 at the University Union on Western's Macomb campus.
This year's Western Illinois University Education Law Conference will feature presentations about the law and the contemporary challenges that teachers, administrators (at the building and district levels) and school board members face in the execution of their duties. Superintendents and central office administrators, principals, regional superintendents of schools and their staff members, teachers, school board members, as well as individuals interested in developing and advancing their knowledge about education-law issues, are encouraged to attend. This year the conference is slated to open at 7:30 a.m. (registration and breakfast period until 8:30 a.m.), with the first presentation beginning at 9 a.m. and the conference concluding at 1 p.m.
Conference presenters are practicing lawyers; plenary session presentations begin at 9 a.m. and include:
- "Freedom of Information — One Year Later"
Presented by Everett E. Nicholas, Jr. (Robbins, Schwartz, Nicholas, Lifton & Taylor, Ltd.), followed by a question and answer period - "Discipline of the General Education Students in Illinois"
Presented by Jay Greening (Miller, Hall, & Triggs, LLC), followed by a question and answer period - Break
- "How Separate? Religion and Public Education"
Presented by Kevin Gordon (Scariano, Himes, and Petrarca Attorneys at Law, Chartered), followed by a question and answer period - "MySpace, Facebook and Twitter, Oh My!"
Presented by David Braun (Miller, Tracey, Braun, Funk & Miller, Ltd.), followed by a question and answer period
The registration fee per individual is $75 and $35 for each student. Individuals should register on or before Friday, March 4. The registration fee includes all presentations, conference materials, breakfast and refreshments.
