Allison Faculty Flute Recital

MACOMB, IL – Matthew Allison, a Western Illinois University School of Music instructor, will be performing a faculty flute recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall, on WIU-Macomb campus.
Allison, along with School of Music Assistant Professor Jeffrey Brown, piano; Associate Professor Lynn Thompson, harpsichord; and senior Charles Spurgeon (East Galesburg, IL), cello, will perform "Sonata in F Major" by George Frideric Handel; "Sonata in G Major 'Hamburger'" by C.P.E. Bach; "Fantaisie" by George Hue; "Sixieme Solo de Concert" by Jules Demersseman; "Un libro di pitture" by Kengo Tokusashi; and "Sonata in D, Op. 94" by Sergei Prokofiev.
Allison received his doctoral and master's degree from the University of Kansas and his bachelor's from the University of Louisville. He has performed for events hosted by the Pennsylvania Music Educator Association, the Pennsylvania Music Teacher Association, the Kansas Music Educator Association and the National Flute Association. Allison was the artistic director of the Flute Fest of Central Pennsylvania and the chair of theory and composition at the Pennsylvania Academy of Music. He has taught master classes at University of Louisville, Luther College, Washburn University, the College of New Jersey and Millersville University.
Brown, who came to Western in Fall 2009, has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Asia as a solo recitalist, chamber musician and soloist with orchestras. As a member of the Music Teachers National Association, he is in demand as a teacher, adjudicator and clinician. He has earned his performer's certificate, Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees at the Eastman School of Music. His Bachelor of Music degree is from the University of Missouri.
Thompson teaches voice in both Classical and Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) genres. Thompson is a website editor for the Central Region of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and is treasurer of the WIU Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Thompson is a member of the Music Teacher's National Association, MENC: The National Association for Music Education, the Organ Historical Society, the College Music Society, the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and the Worship Arts, and the American Choral Director's Association. Thompson was the 1992 winner of the Norman Treigle Memorial Prize. He holds a Bachelor's of Music and a Master's of Music from the University of Louisville, and has pursued advanced studies at the University of Cincinnati and Shenandoah University.
