Western Illinois University Mathematics Teacher's Conference

2024 will mark the 70th annual mathematics teacher's conference at WIU.

The conference is sponsored by Western Illinois University, Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and West Central Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Keynote Speakers

The 2023 conference keynote speakers were Professors Trena Wilderson and Jim Olsen.

Trena Wilkerson was President of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics from 2020 to 2022 and is a mathematics education professor in the School of Education at Baylor University in Waco, Texas where she teaches both graduate and undergraduate mathematics education courses and conducts professional development and research.

Jim Olsen taught mathematics and teacher education courses for prospective and practicing teachers at Western Illinois University. His research interests include mental math, student understanding of the function concept, multiplicative reasoning, educational uses of technology, logic for middle school, problem solving, and teaching mathematical and higher-order reasoning while seeing the beauty of mathematics

This conference normally begins at 8:00 a.m. and runs through 3:00 p.m. The schedule includes a welcome message, keynote address, breakout sessions, lunch break, workshops, and a closing address. The schedule will be posted as the conference details are finalized.


Registration for the 2024 conference will be available when conference details are finalized.

Registration cost includes a continental breakfast and box lunch. Walk-ins are accepted, but advanced registration is preferred.

Call for Speakers

If you have ideas for teaching math that you would like to share, we are looking for breakout session speakers and are accepting proposals for future conferences. Please contact Dr. Bob Mann.


Participants can park in the Horrabin Hall lot (big lot south of Horrabin Hall). Parking Services is aware of the conference and won't be ticketing. If the Horrabin Hall lot is full, try the Currens Hall lot (lot west of Currens Hall and NW from Horrabin).
