Western Illinois University Enhances Opportunities with New Two College System

As part of a strategic effort to provide excellent academic and experiential opportunities for students, Western Illinois University is transitioning to a two college system, effective July 1, 2026. The university website may temporarily continue to display the old names of colleges, departments and schools until a upcoming large-scale website redesign is launched to fully update the digital content.

While our academic structure may be changing, WIU continues to offer a comprehensive slate of undergraduate and graduate degrees, which you can explore here or organized by college and school below.

Two New Colleges

The new structure has created the College of Business, Health, and Community Programs (CBHCP) and the College of Humanities, Arts, Sciences, and Education (CHASE). These newly formed colleges will be focused on student success, career readiness and collaboration across programs.

College of Business, Health, and Community Programs

CBHCP will serve as a hub for career-focused education, workforce development and community engagement across a diverse portfolio of academic disciplines.

The CBHCP Dean Tara Feld will be assisted by Associate Dean for Budget, Personnel, and Strategic Planning, Dennis DeVolder and Associate Dean for Academic Programs, Assessment, and Student Success, Peter Jorgensen.

College of Humanities, Arts, Sciences, and Education

CHASE builds on Western's proud tradition of preparing future educators and will offer new opportunities to combine creativity, scientific inquiry, and interdisciplinary learning.

The interim CHASE Dean Kyle Mayborn will be assisted by Associate Dean for Budget, Personnel, and Strategic Planning Tawnya Adkins Covert, Associate Dean for Academic Programs, Assessment, and Student Success Keith Boeckelman, and Director of Educator Preparation Katrina Daytner.

Reimagined School Structures

The school structure under each college has been reimagined to strengthen collaboration across programs, curriculum and interdisciplinary partnerships. Through these connected academic experiences, students will be well prepared for in-demand careers, equipped to adapt in an ever-changing world and empowered to contribute to the quality of life of their communities.
