Missing in Action/Prisoner of War (MIA/POW) Scholarship
Eligibility
The MIA/POW Scholarship is for the dependent of a person who was an Illinois resident at the time he/she entered active duty and has been declared to be a:
- Prisoner of war,
- Missing in action,
- Deceased as a result of a service-connected disability, or
- Disabled with a 100 percent disability as the result of a service-connected cause as recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or the U.S. Department of Defense
Benefits
MIA/POW benefits pay eligible tuition charges and the University activity fee; recipients are responsible for any remaining fees associated with enrollment.
Application
Submit an MIA/POW Scholarship Application and required documentation to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, as listed on the application form.
Once you submit a copy of your Eligibility Card to WIU’s Financial Aid Office, the award will credit your University bill.
As long as you are continuously enrolled each academic year, the MIA/POW will credit your bill automatically. If not continuously enrolled, notify the Financial Aid Office to re-activate the award.
