Director of Athletics Interview Dec. 22

MACOMB, IL - - Matt Tanney, interim director of athletics at Western Illinois University, has been invited to interview for the director of intercollegiate athletics Tuesday, Dec. 22.

An open session will be held from 10-10:50 a.m. in the Hall of Fame room in Western Hall.

Tanney has served in his current role since May 2015. He directs day-to-day operations of the WIU Athletics Department; leads and supervises athletics personnel; and manages external operations, including media services, donor development and fundraising, corporate sponsorships and marketing and promotional efforts. Previously, he was the deputy director of athletics (2014-2015) and the associate director of athletics (2012-2014) at Western, and he was the director of compliance for the University of Oklahoma Athletics Department, director of compliance for the University of Dayton Athletics Division, compliance coordinator for The Ohio State University Athletic Department and National Federation of State High School Associations law clerk.

Tanney earned his bachelor's degree in English from Wabash College and his Juris Doctorate from Indiana University School of Law.

The director of WIU's Intercollegiate Athletics directs and supervises the administration of athletics and all administrative operations and business functions of the program in accordance with the policies and procedures of the institution, NCAA and the Summit League and Missouri Valley Football conferences.
