Oden Named Associate Dean of the College of Education and Human Services

MACOMB, IL - - Lorette Oden, chair of the Western Illinois University Department of Health Sciences and Social Work, has been named interim associate dean of the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS), effective Aug. 1, according to COEHS Interim Dean Katrina Daytner.

Oden has served as chair of health sciences and social work since 2015, and she has served as the department's internship coordinator since 2014. She joined the department (formerly called the WIU Department of Community Health and Health Services Management) as an assistant professor in 1999. Oden was promoted to associate professor in 2003 and to professor in 2008. Previously, she served as a doctoral research assistant and instructor in the University of Toledo Department of Health Promotion and Human Performance. Oden also served as a Fellow of the 2012 American Association of Blacks in Higher Education Leadership and Mentoring Institute at Miles College in Birmingham, AL.

"Oden brings a wealth of experience to the dean's office. Her widespread background, her commitment to collaboration and academic excellence and her familiarity with college and University processes will serve COEHS well," said Daytner. "We are most happy to have her on our team."

Oden has authored and co-authored numerous articles for professional publications, and she has served as a presenter at various professional conferences. Oden is the chair of the WIU Minority Health Month Planning Committee, as well as a member of the Strategic Plan Update Team, the Black Caucus and the Retention Task Force.
