WIU Homecoming 2021: Oct. 1-2

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University will celebrate Homecoming 2021 Friday-Saturday, Oct. 1-2, with the theme "Rocky Undercover: What is your Alibi?"

Homecoming kicks off from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23 with the annual Town and Gown celebration, and the unveiling of the latest Rocky on Parade statues at The Forum in downtown Macomb.

The 2021 Honorary Alumni and Town & Gown awards will also be presented. To register, visit wiu.com/Alumni.

Other events leading up to Homecoming 2021 include Rock the Flag, 4:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 24; Paint the Town, 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Sept. 25; Bubble Soccer (noon) and Chalk the Campus (4-6 p.m.), Sunday, Sept. 26; the annual Variety Show, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28; and "Yell Like Hell," 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30.

Other scheduled Homecoming events include:

Friday, Oct. 1

- 2 p.m. - Reunion registration begins at the Alumni House, and continues throughout the weekend.

- 4 p.m. – WIU Mascot Memorial and Alumni Plaza Dedication – at the plaza directly north of the University Union.

- 5-9 p.m. – All-Alumni Social, Alumni House – complimentary food, beer, wine and soda will be available, as will a cash bar. The event will include a memorial dedication for George Baughman, '60, '67.

Saturday, Oct. 2

- 7-7:45 a.m. Old Stompin' Ground Runaround Registration, Alumni House

- 8 a.m. - Old Stompin' Ground Runaround: 5K Run/1.5 mile walk

- 8:30 a.m. - 2020 and 2021 Reunion Recognition Brunch & Social, Alumni House – honoring the classes of 1970, 1971, 1980, 1981, 1995 and 1996.

- 9:30 a.m. - All-Alumni Breakfast, Alumni House (complimentary coffee and donuts)

- 10:30 a.m. - Homecoming Parade - Watch from the Alumni House and Gwendolyn Brooks Memorial Park next door – WIU alumnus Emmerson Buie, Jr., '87, special agent in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Chicago Field Office, is grand marshal.

- Noon-3 p.m. - Alumni Cookout at "The Right Place" tent - in Q-Lot (Menu: Hot dogs and hamburgers, veggie burgers, potato chips, bottled water, canned soda and coffee.)

- 3 p.m. - Leathernecks Football Game vs. Southern Illinois - Hanson Field

Tickets will not be mailed. Homecoming football ticket sales are final.

Current students Elizabeth Orwig, a sophomore special education major, from Ohio, IL, and Vanessa Barban, a sophomore law enforcement and justice administration major, from Romeoville, IL, who will serve as co-directors of the University Union Board Homecoming Committee.

"We are so excited to see how Homecoming participants take on this new and unique theme. After the crazy year we've had, we hope students will go above and beyond this Homecoming, and fully embrace the more traditional event we missed last fall," said Orwig.
