WIU Students Encouraged to Schedule Academic Advising Appointments

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University students are encouraged to make their academic advising appointments early so they can register for Summer/Fall 2015 during the preregistration period in April.

Students must meet with their academic advisors before they can register, so it is imperative that students have advising appointments prior to registration dates in April. According to the WIU Council of Academic Advisors, this will help the students stand the best chance of being able to register on time and get the courses they need to graduate.

"Many times students have other registration encumbrances, such as billing holds or immunization encumbrances, so they assume they should wait until those are cleared to meet with their advisors. However, some advisors' appointment schedules are booked weeks in advance, so it is best to get your advising appointment taken care of as soon as possible in order to register as soon as the encumbrances are taken care of," said Ellen Poulter, academic advisor in WIU's Department of English and Journalism.

Students can find their Spring 2015 advance registration appointments on the STARS registration screen.

A general summary of registration assignment periods for undergraduate students includes:

Seniors: April 3, 6, 7, 8, 9
Juniors: April 8, 9, 10, 13
Sophomores: April 13, 14, 15
Freshmen: April 15, 16, 17

Students can also contact the advising centers on campus. Below is a list of how to contact advisors through the various advising centers or departmental advisor by college.

Centennial Honors College

College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)
CAS advising is handled within the academic departments. Contact your advisor (listed below) based on your major.
African American studies; foreign languages; mathematics; and philosophy and religious studies: Caryn Morgan. To make an appointment, sign up for a time outside Morgan Hall room 203B.

College of Business and Technology (CBT)

CBT students majoring in agriculture, construction management, engineering (with last names beginning with A-M), engineering technology or graphic communication should contact the Knoblauch Hall Advising Center (room 110) at (309) 298-2100.

CBT students majoring in accountancy, computer science, economics, engineering (with last names beginning with A-M), finance, human resource management, information systems, management, marketing, network technologies or supply chain management should contact CBT Advising Center in Stipes Hall, room 133 at (309) 298-1619.

College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC)
COFAC advising is handled within the academic departments. Contact your advisor (listed below) based on your major.

The University Advising and Office of Academic Services (OAS)
The University Advising and Academic Services Center (UAASC), located in Memorial Hall, provides advising for students in the University advising, transitional advising programs and for students accepted through OAS. To make an appointment, call (309) 298-1871.
