Scheduled Outages & Planned Maintenance

 

Monday May 20, 2013 & Friday May 24, 2013: Planned Power Outage Olson Hall

There are two scheduled power outages for Olson one on Monday May 20 5:00 - 11:00 am and the other on Friday May 24, 2013 5:00 - 11:00am.  Facility Management will be working on the electrical systems during these times and most network services will not be available.

 

Monday May 13, 2013:  Planned Power Outage Corbin Hall

There is a scheduled power outage for Corbin on Monday May 13, 2013 from 5:00 - 8:00 am.  Facility Management will be working on the electrical systems during this time and most network services will not be available.

 

March 18, 2013:  ResNet Wireless Outage

9:30 am

 

ResNet wireless is operational.

 

An additional link needed to be established on the network to resolve a routing issue that was preventing return traffic from getting to customer computers.  The outage was resolved just before 9:30 am.


8:55am

ResNet is currently experiencing an issue with wireless in all ResNet related buildings.  This is related to the work that was done over spring break.  The problem has been identified and the Network team is preparing to implement a fix that should resolve the problem.

 

Spring Break Maintenance:

We will be performing ResNet upgrades/enhancements over the fall break. The major portion of the upgrades are implementing a new network scheme & migrating ResNet from external IP ranges to private IP ranges (NAT). NAT provides an extra layer of security by giving end-users some type of anonymity while surfing the web and also hiding computer IP addresses from other devices on the Internet.

NAT can break certain applications, or make these applications more difficult to run. Most of the applications that could to be affected by this change are already being blocked for security reasons (Peer2peer, file sharing, MS netbios ... etc). Some games may also be affected.

We will be maintaining one building at a time and testing the same building as the changes are made.

Tentative schedule:
* Washington, Lincoln, Grote - Tuesday Dec 18 & Wednesday Dec 19: 8:30am to 4:30pm
* Bayliss, Henninger, Tanner - Thursday Dec 20 & Friday Dec 21 8:30am to 4:30pm
* Higgins, University village, East Village: Wednesday Jan 2 & Thursday Jan 3: 8:30am to 4:30pm
* Final touches & problem resolution: Friday Jan 4: 8:30am to 4:30pm

NOTE(1): Upgrades on one building might take longer than others and we might have to roll onto the second day.
NOTE(2): If maintenance took shorter time on a building, we will not wait, we will continue making changes and moving down the list.
NOTE(3): Throughout the maintenance period there will be intermittent network outages.
