Disruption Update - WIUP and STARS Unavailable - Update (11:58pm)

Access to WIUP and STARS has been restored. Note that systems will be offline from midnight to approx. 3am for regular nightly maintenance; this is to be expected. Users may receive data errors on some WIUP/STARS screens tomorrow morning, but University Technology is aware of the situation and actively working on correcting the errors. Thank you for your patience this evening.

Disruption Notice - Phishing email leveraging Google Drive (12:59pm)

On Thursday, April 14, some members of Western Illinois University reported receiving a phishing scam that was sent via a shared Google Drive email notification. The email message fraudulently indicated that WIU President Dr. Guiyou Huang shared a file named “Faculty and Staff Evaluation_.docx” with you. 

If you received this (or any other phishing message):

1) Report it as phishing to Google so they can block future copies of the message from being delivered to the University.
2) Do not reply to the message or click on any links within the phishing email message.
If you clicked on the “Open” button within the email: 

If you received the email and clicked on the “Open” link, your account may be compromised.  Action needs to be taken immediately to protect your data:

1) Go to https://myaccount.google.com/permissions
2) Sign-in if you haven’t already
3) Carefully review the list of third-party apps and remove access from any that you do not recognize.
4) Then change your ECom password by visiting wiu.edu/reset/.

Please be constantly aware of these social engineering and phishing scams. They are not always received via email, but include telephone calls, use of social media, and other attack avenues.
